The
Minnesota Area Geriatric Education Center (MAGEC),
established in 1988 through a federal
grant, is part of the University of Minnesota Center on
Aging. Ten University faculty members representing the
disciplines of medicine, public health, nursing,
physical therapy, pharmacy, social work, and physical medicine
and rehabilitation constitute the leadership of MAGEC.
MAGEC provides educational and innovative programs on a
regional and local basis through partnerships with
institutions and organizations involved in aging. An
integral part of promoting education is the design and
expansion of curricular offerings in geriatrics and
gerontology. Additionally, MAGEC works to strengthen
clinicians’ skills and knowledge in geriatrics.
