An undergraduate program with a specialization in
gerontology can be pursued through many departments. All
programs listed lead to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of
Science degree.
Department of Family Social
Science, College of Human Ecology
This program is designed for an undergraduate students who
wish to complement their major in Family Social Science with
Family Gerontology as an Application Area. Interested

Inter-College Program (ICP)
The ICP allows a student to design an interdisciplinary
inter-collegiate program leading to a degree with an
emphasis on aging drawn from many segments of the

Programs for Individualized Learning (PIL)
PIL advisor and the student work closely to develop an
individualized program in aging by combining courses,
directed study projects, and experiences. For more

Bachelor of Individualized Studies (BIS)
Course work is grouped into “areas” that may be
interdisciplinary or departmental in nature. A student may
design a program which has an aging studies component.
Individually Designed Interdepartmental Major (IDIM)
An interdepartmental program of coursework on the theme of
aging is developed in consultation with the student and
advisors.
