The Center on Aging and the Minnesota Area Geriatric
Education Center (MAGEC) sponsor and cosponsor numerous
educational events, many of which are designed to meet the criteria
necessary to receive continuing education credits for a
variety of disciplines. These opportunities include educational
and clinical fellowships, applied research seminars, and
the Distinguished Lecture Series.
The Center on Aging is also home to the graduate minor in
gerontology at the University of Minnesota. The
gerontology minor is available to master's (MA and MS) and
doctoral students. The minor provides a multidisciplinary
foundation in gerontology for master's minors and a more
intensive preparation in aging for PhD level minors.
The gerontology minor has been pursued by students across
the University majoring in such diverse fields as curriculum and
instruction, communication disorders, dentistry, design,
housing and apparel, family medicine and community health,
family social science, journalism and mass communication,
kinesiology, nursing, psychology, social work, and sociology,
among others.
The DGS will work with each student to tailor the program of courses
for the gerontology minor.
In addition to the links on the left, there are several
other educational opportunities that are listed under the
MAGEC
link above, including the Distinguished Lecture Series,
the Summer Institute, and educational and clinical
fellowships.
