The mission of the
Center on Aging is to:

and applied research as well as education that will help explicate the
aging process and inform public policy

visible base and intellectual focus for faculty and students in
gerontology and geriatrics education, research, and service

Certificate in Aging Studies Program
The University of Minnesota Center on Aging has launched a new graduate
level program that offers community practitioners from a variety of disciplines an
opportunity to develop their skills in gerontology.

Geriatric Healthcare Provider Training Program
Highly informative video lectures were recently developed
by geriatrics experts from across the country on key elder care topics
such as dementia, end of life care, elder mistreatment, and vitality. The lectures are intended for a wide
variety of professional audiences and can be easily accessed from any
computer. Each module lasts about an hour and consists of a Power Point slide presentation
narrated by an expert on the topic. For a complete list and to access

Gerontological Society in a Webinar "Changing Expectations for Work and
Retirement"
Dr. Jan Hively will be presenting a webinar on
November 19, 2009, 12 noon - 1pm. She will discuss the pressures for
working longer from different perspectives,
demographics of work and retirement
in U.S. and Europe, the public policies
needed to support older workers, the impact
of ageism and recession on work and retirement,
and finding meaning in work and retirement.
No cost to MGS members; $20 for nonmembers. Register by November 16 on the

Save the date for "Caring for a Parent With Memory Loss"
December 5, 2009 8:00 am-4:00 pm,
in room 2-650 Moos
Tower, on the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Campus.
Topics to be presented include driving and dementia, alternative
therapies for persons with dementia, and financial planning and
dementia. The conference is free and open to both health care
professionals and the general public (CEUs will be available for nurses).
