MS Internship
The research and policy concentration (Plan B), of the MS program in
Health Services Research, Policy and Administration has an internship
that is an integral part of the MS program. Students are placed at
organizations in the community where they receive “hands on” experience
in health services research, are mentored, and have opportunities to
contribute to projects within the sponsoring organization. Students
apply skills learned from the program to their internship. Many students
use their internship experience as the foundation for their Masters
thesis.
The MS Program Internship Unique Features:
- The MS program has developed partnerships with many
organizations in the Twin Cites where MS student interns are placed.
- Most internships are paid; included is a salary and half the
student’s tuition and health insurance.
- Students have the opportunity to interview with multiple
organizations to find the internship site with the best match for
their interests and skills.
- Internships begin in the first semester, and continue for 2
years.

M.S. Program Offers Students 'Real World' Working Experience
HPM's Master of Science in Health Services Research, Policy and
Administration is preparing students for dynamic careers in health care
through its M.S. Internship Program.
Through the program, and under the supervision of Twin Cities
researchers and policy analysts, M.S. students will work 12-20 hours a week
in various health care organizations and public agencies.
In addition to 'real world' learning opportunities, students in the
training program will earn 30-50 percent of a full-time salary, and
receive a significant reduction in tuition.
This opportunity is especially advantageous considering that
Minnesota is recognized widely for excellent health policies and
delivery systems, especially in the areas of managed care and health
care access. Students in the program will gain firsthand knowledge of
health care organizations and agencies that are recognized nationally
for their innovation and leadership.
As partners in the program, local organizations will pay for a
student's salary, fringe benefits, and a large portion of his or her in-state
tuition. The organizations are part of an advisory committee consisting
of representatives from the sponsoring organizations that provide input
about the MS program structure and curriculum.
