Regulating Long-Term Care

The LTC Resource Center has had a long-standing interest in regulation and quality assurance for all types of long-term care in all locations.

With funding from the Hulda and Maurice Rothschild Foundation, we assembled all nursing home regulations of the 50 states and the District of Columbia on a searchable website, and have presented comparative analyses of how States handle almost 100 topics in their nursing home regulations.  Using the searchable website, visitors can:

  • Compare any state’s regulations to the federal regulations.
  • Compare how states regulate nursing homes on more than 80 specific topics.
  • Analyze how nursing home regulations may assist or hinder resident autonomy and resident quality of life.

The website is a platform for research the University of Minnesota is are currently undertaking to suggest model regulations compatible with culture change towards individualized services and resident quality of life in nursing homes.  We are also exploring the relevance to assisted living regulation.
